Three Calling Queens...

Writer: Charlotte DaveyCharlotte Davey

And two humans on the brink of sanity!

Weeyin has had her first call this week. Calling is the cat version on being "in season" or "in heat" and believe me, they let you know about it! It lasted around 4.5 days which is average and we can expect it to happen every couple of weeks from now until she's mated or around September time (although some girls can call all year round).

The shouting is a hormonal reaction which they have no control over and she has been going 24 hours, last night she only woke us up once though which was a blessing! It's the only time we've ever had to shut the bedroom door as Ian works shifts and had early starts this weekend. I felt awful but Boop was happy as she got me all to herself.

The funniest thing (and the reason for the blog title) is that Boop is a highly skilled mimic, so she has been calling right along side the Weeyin! Sometimes to the point you don't know which one of them it is.

The third calling's queen has been Zori. He has a very close relationship with Weeyin, and also a propensity to grumble. Every time she shouts, he grumbles in response. So we've had a whole choir of them!

She hasn't shown the increased affection towards us that some girls do, only when we pick her up or she gets us on our own. She has had increased affection to all the other cats though - even propositioning Bubs (who made a concerted effort to remember what his man bits are for).

The weather has been a blessing as we've had to keep the back doors shut. While the protective fencing stops them getting out, it doesn't stop other cats getting in and the risk of a local un-neutered Tom cat answering her calls is just too high. We don't want any 'accidents' in this house.

There have been a few tensions between her and the girls as they haven't appreciated her noise or her behaviour, but everything is back to normal now and we'll hopefully all sleep well tonight.
